Evolution has just released a live game show that potentially ushers in a new era of slots gaming called live slots. The new Extra Chilli Epic Spins is a live game show created around the theme of the 2017-released Extra Chilli Megaways slot from Big Time Gaming (BTG). Even to date, the original slot has over 1,000,000 active players. With a few minor changes under the hood and a lively host, the iconic game has been revamped and now offers wins of up to 20,000, while retaining a very competitive RTP of 96.74%.
Todd Haushalter, Evolution’s Chief Product Officer, commented on how the game came alive: “Since our acquisition of BTG, Nick Robinson [BTG founder] and I have been brainstorming ways in which to combine the worlds of live and slots. Our first collaboration has come together here in a unique game that, once again, redefines online gaming. Playing online slots can be a solitary experience and we wanted to make it more communal and sociable. We know from our live game shows that players love the ‘with friends’ experience as I call it, and now we’ve brought that gaming experience to one of the world’s top slots.”
Haushalter continued: “This new game is packed full of fun, including two physical bonus wheels, as well as the drama of the game host smashing open a Piñata with a bat. It was important to us that we offered physical, in-studio experiences that are not possible in a standard slot game – and that’s what we’ve done. Extra Chilli Epic Spins™ is all alone in a new slot category, and I think players are going to love it.”
The Mexican-themed live game plays much like a regular slot. However, in contrast to similar slot shows, like Buffalo Blitz Live from Playtech, where players place bets on individual spins, in the Extra Chilli Epic Spins, players must purchase five spins at a time, which counts as one round. Bets for each set of spins range as follows: €0.50, €1, €2, €5, €10, and €20 per round.
Payouts within the slot are calculated for each spin’s bet and not the cost of the round of 5 spins. Like the original slot, there arefour4 high-paying chilli symbols, with the Purple Chilli paying up to 10x for 6-of-a-kind, and six low-paying symbols made up of high playing cards. Each spin generates a random number of Megaways, with the highest being 117,649 ways to win per each spin, including the extra row for Double Reactions at the bottom.
One of the aims of the game is to win big with symbols, which is where Crates and Piñata come into play. When they appear, players get win multipliers between 1x and 20x, which are reset at the end of each game round. Also, when a Piñata appears, the host will take a bat and smash a real Piñata, which can also trigger a Free Spins bonus. Otherwise, the only way into the bonus is to get three letters that form the word HOT within five paid spins.
The Free Spins bonus has 8 spins at no extra cost to the player. All multipliers from the base game will be carried into the bonus, with chances of winning more during the freebies. Getting a Piñata during free spins may also re-trigger it for 8 more turns. The cherry on top of the cake is that when the bonus comes to a close, there’s an opportunity to win 4 more spins with potentially huge multipliers still left on the table. To win extra spins, guess the colours in the subsequent two Gamble Wheel rounds.
There are 2 Gamble Wheel rounds:
- Round 1) Choose red or purple – the winning colour gets +2 free spins
- Round 2) Choose red, purple, green or blue – the winning colour gets +2 free spins.
Note that during those extra spins, it’s no longer possible to re-trigger the bonus or get Crates for additional multipliers. Once the wheel gambles come to an end, a new round of bets will start, and the game continues as usual.
Evolution’s new live game show slot, which you can already try out at Evolution casinos, potentially paves the road for more releases in the series with little competition from other studios. Other than the previously mentioned Playtech game and attempts from other game developers, like 9 Pots of Gold™ Streamicon from OnAir Entertainment, which is based on a slot made by a Microgaming partner, Gameburger Studios, it will remain, as Todd pointed out in the comments, pretty much all alone in a new slot category.
PS. Stay tuned for the release of Evolution’s hotly anticipated Funky Time, which is coming out on 10th May, which you can read all about in our earlier post.
