The annual ICE casino conference is taking place in London right now. It is also one of the best times for game developers to announce their upcoming content and exciting new developments that await players the coming months. Quickspin, a Scandinavian slots developer owned by Playtech, has made one of those intriguing announcements by revealing that they will expand their current slots-only offering by starting to produce live casino games. They call the new product offering Quickspin Live, differentiating it from their core product, Quickspin Slots. Their first game has also been announced – Big Bad Wolf Live – and it’s coming this summer!
In the company announcement, Panagiotis Chryssovitsanos, Quickspin CEO, commented on the bold new steps: “Quickspin was founded on the idea that we wanted to bring something fresh and innovative to the market with own blend of high-quality production value, creativity and love. That was 11 years ago. But the market has changed, the games have changed, and the player base has changed alongside it.”
He added: “And, while there are plenty of companies that make fantastic games, we now see ourselves entering the era where the biggest player bases are not the ones that grew up in the shadow of Las Vegas’ heyday but rather in the era of the internet and social gaming. They grew up with a phone in their hands, internet access, they played games online and interacted with each other in the same way. We see this as our opportunity to talk directly to that generation of players. Our ambition is to provide them with high quality, entertainment-first games that they can play and enjoy, together.”
Quickspin plans to release a new live game every quarter. Their first live casino title, Big Bad Wolf Live, will launch towards the end of June 2023. They said they’ll use the existing Playtech platform but will add their little blend of brilliance to create a game they think will be a genuine fan favourite. There isn’t much more information except for a couple of unconfirmed screenshots that show gameplay similar to Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt Live by Evolution.
Quickspin’s live slots will join Playtech’s attempt at the cross-vertical concept. This includes releases like Buffalo Blitz, launched in December of 2019, featuring community spins, as they call them, with a live presenter. That’s one approach the Swedish slots developer can take, but there are also reasons to go directly after Evolution and their new live slots created on NetEnt IP slots. One of them is the previously mentioned Gonzo’s Live Slot game, launched in the summer of 2021, which saw much more production effort and can even be played in VR, and the other Dead or Alive Saloon card game, which came out only a few months ago.
Even though Evolution is the undisputed leader in the live gaming scenery, Playtech has plenty of means to uplift its production level, including building new synergies with sister studios like Quickspin. We’ll keep an eye on this interesting development and let you know what we think of the game when it hits Quickspin casinos later this year. Stay tuned!
