Nolimit City slots are getting progressively volatile this year. Following the release of Walk of Shame and Benji slots geared more towards casual gameplay, the studio has just released a thematic prequel to the famous Book of Shadows that thrives on extreme volatility. Although it features just one X-feature of theirs, the xSplit, the relatively simple gameplay carried on from the original is very welcomed in Nolimit’s otherwise exuberate games portfolio. You’ll find the new Blood and Shadow slot from today, March 7, at most Nolimit City casinos. Here’s a quick summary and our take on this dark-spirited slot.
Blood & Shadow, like many Nolimit City slots, is characteristically violent and imaginative. Sebastian Hovenberg, the Product Owner at Nolimit City, sets the tone for the witch game: “As the years go by, her time is running out. Shadow Girl now turns her eyes to the Realm of Shadows to find Eternal youth, but will this come to her as a blessing or a curse. Welcome in and try out our very first ever progression game where sacrifices are the only way to reach the highest potentials.”
It starts with a 4x4 reel setup that offers 1,024 ways to win off the bat. It’s also a game with collapsing winning symbols, so any re-triggers following an initial bet are technically free of charge. It gets better with a new bar they added too.
The highlight feature is the Ritual Bar at the bottom of the reels. It has 5 levels, each with points that need to be filled by winning combos. Get a combo with medium and high symbols to level up and remove the lowest-paying symbols and also convert mediums to highs. In addition to the tumbling symbols, each level-up will also award +2 free spins called Candle Spins. The odds of reaching level 5 also get better with Sticky Wilds on reels 2—5, which will stay on the reels until they form part of a win. All that levelling up happens without extra bets, but as soon as the winning party ends, the Ritual Bar will reset, and you’ll have to start all over again.
If you reach the fifth and final stage, you’ll be in for a hell of a ride with 6 Cursed Spins, a frantic mode with an extra row, 3,125 ways to win, and only high-paying symbols. It’s also where the xSplit is introduced in addition to the Sticky Wilds. These spins are very precious, and you’ll get +1 for every Scatter if you’re lucky to catch one and get closer to the max payout of 6,666x bet.
As always, this Nolimit slot has a Bonus Buy too, which can give an instant bonus kick when needed, for the following costs:
- 66x bet – Progresses to level 3 and activates 6 Candle Spins
- 500x bet – Buys 10 Cursed Spins
- 55x bet – Lucky Draw between 1-5 levels
- 166x bet – Lucky Draw between 3-5 levels.
Finally, from the technical aspect, the game has a hit frequency of 27.18%, which is relatively high. The theoretical return to the player is 96.13%, but it can also come with a 94.03% and the rarer 92.04% configuration, depending on which Nolimit City casino and jurisdiction you play. While we still have half a year until Halloween, we think the creators have come up with an interesting game, although the maximum win potential of this low level was last seen in their 2020 releases. See if it makes it more playable than Book of Shadows with its 30,338x top payout or Relax Gaming’s new Book of Power slot made in partnership with CasinoGrounds.
