Costa Rica Licensed Casinos
Costa Rica, officially the Republic of Costa Rica, is a Central American country with a very unique licensing jurisdiction that is quite attractive on the one side and exactly the opposite on the other. This is a country with no specific legislation to control online gaming, which hosts hundreds of online operators that are basically self-regulated and work under a data processing license from the Municipality. Ironically, it’s illegal for Costa Ricans to participate in any online gambling activities.
Costa Rica doesn’t charge online gaming portals any betting or gaming taxes from their foreign sources. However, this doesn’t apply to the revenue earned within the country or sports books, which are subject to the 2007 bill that is based on the number of employees on the company’s payroll. However, the reason that makes such operators think twice before obtaining any licenses from this top-ranking Latin American country is because the banking sector is controlled by the US, which makes business conduct extremely difficult.
A new law referring to online gaming has been recently introduced yet not registered. Costa Rica is in need of a gaming control board that would hopefully result in less blacklisted and rogue casinos, and, fortunately, reports show clear plans to help fund the system with the help of taxes and annual fees.
