Casinos supporting US Dollar Currency
The US dollar is a type of fiat currency that is used both in the United States and in many other countries around the world as well as being a common standard for international trade. Fiat currencies differ from commodity currencies in that they are not physically made of a precious item like gold or silver and from representative currencies in that they are not physical representations of an item that is not present. Instead, their value is determined by laws and their place in international trade markets.
Like much in the English language, the origin of the word is German. Count Hieronymus Schlick of Bohemia started minting his own coins with silver from St. Joachim's Valley, so they were called "Joachimstalers." The "tal" part of the word means "valley." Soon, those minted coins were referred to as "talers", which became "daler" in Danish, Swedish, and Dutch and eventually "dollar" in English.
There are places where the US dollar is used that they don't refer to it in English, though. In some French-speaking areas of Louisiana, it is called a "paisse" and in Ecuador it is called a "plata," which literally means "silver," referring to the silver dollars that were once more prevalent.
