Casinos accepting players from Sweden
If you’ve been to Sweden then you may have noticed how big their gambling sector is. In fact, the gross gaming revenue for the regulated Swedish gambling market amounted to SEK 17 billion in 2012 alone! Swedish are allowed to play on foreign hosted online gaming sites, even though special licenses are needed for one to operate in this country. This all happens amidst strict laws and regulations that are applicable to all of the land based and online operators, including the state-owned monopoly and behemoth Svenska Spel. The latter has received lots of criticism as it doesn’t really conform to the free trade policy rules set by the European Union and is also partly responsible for the huge advertising expenditure among grey market operators. However, in 2014, new gambling legislations should be introduced and other international operators could soon find themselves on the green list. As of now, all operators concerned should refer to the 1994 Lotteries Act and the 1999 Casinos Act.
The Municipalities and the Country Administrative Boards are responsible for the regulation of local lotteries, bingo and regional lotteries, while the Government and the Swedish Gambling Authority (Lotteriinspektionen) for ATG, Svenska Spel and other licenses.
